Does My Racking and Shelving Need to be Bolted Down?

Does My Racking and Shelving Need to be Bolted Down?

This is a popular question that is often asked. Here are a few things that you need to know:

Let’s start with the short answer: securing racking and shelving to the floor is certainly recommended.

If you intend to store pallets on the racking it is unsafe not to bolt the racking down. Collision with the frames from materials handling equipment can easily occur and bolting the racking down will help to prevent the pallets from falling off preventing your stock and staff.

If you are using the racking as shelving and this is not higher than 2.4-3m and is not at risk of being bumped/hit by a forklift, then you may choose not to.

To make sure that you can remove the bolts from the floor in the future we suggest that you use Screw Anchor Bolts. These are much easier to remove in the future than standard sleeve anchors.
